I based this barbarian on a painting done by Brom in 1992 called Into the Fray. I believe it was used for the Dark Sun Dungeons & Dragons setting back in the day. I thought it was really cool, so I decided to do my take on it. Mainly I tried to capture the feel from the painting of this crazed looking barbarian coming down on some unlucky enemy with his sword. I added the flames below just to add some interest with the hot lighting from below and the cool lighting from above. I didn't want to go too overboard with the background because he's the focal point of the piece. It was a lot of fun to work on. I love Brom's work, so I hope I did it justice.
